Music on the Brain

Last Tuesday, when I went to Ms. Maggie Moo's website, she had a post titled, "Ruby Tuesday". I left the following comment:

"Dang it, Mags. The title of this post has me thinking of the Rolling Stones song of the same name. Oh, well. Nothing I can do about it now."

Last week, when going to the Eazy Cheezy website, I noticed Brian had just written a post entitled, "Stumbled Upon Toolbars, Utilities and Tips". Within seconds, the 70's classic "Stumblin' In" was going through my mind.

Last Friday, when digging out a Great Clips coupon, I noticed that it said "Walk Right In". Guess what song was going through my head just a couple seconds later?

On Friday, I went to a guy's website which was called Ask Me Why and immediately thought of the Beatles song "Tell Me Why".

As the above examples show, this happens to me all the time! I'll be reading a Time or Newsweek article and all of a sudden, a song will go through my head.

I'll be like, "Where did that come from?". Nine times out of ten, after looking over the paragraph or two that I just read, I'll find a series of words that corresponds to the song that is now rattling around in my noggin.

I would think this happens to others, but since I listen to an incredible variety of music (going from the 50's all the way to the present day) on a daily basis, I suspect my experience of it is much more acute.

All day, everyday. :) I actually get a kick out of it most times but then again, I'm easily amused! ;)

Hope you are having a nice day, mister!

Music and memory are very interestingly connected. I think it has to do with the parts of the brain they use.. I think..

I have the same thing happen... I could practically record my days with song titles or lines... and I love the variety of many different kinds of music...

people! certain songs always makes me think of certain people. not in an "our song" kind of way either. case in point: "more than words" by lifehouse makes me think of leo, a guy i worked with very briefly, seven years ago.

it's totally random.

Sarah, you made me laugh on the outside! This too, is strong for me! The only thing I hate now is, every time I hear a song that is associated with someone I no longer see eye to eye with. That part of the experience sucks because the song is tainted forever!

palin has given more pressers than obama or biden.

see here:

excerpt:

From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(COLORADO SPRINGS) It was less than two weeks ago when Sarah Palin astonished her traveling press corps by lifting the curtain (literally) and journeying to the back of her campaign plane to answer reporters’ questions for the first time after 40 days on the campaign trail. But the candidate who has been criticized for having a bunker mentality when it came to the national media can now lay legitimate claim to being more accessible than either Joe Biden or Barack Obama.

It's impossible for a person of sound mind to vote for a Vice Presidential candidate who refuses to give a press conference. I mean, what is this, the Soviet Union?

THOMAS:

IF YOU ARE A MAN OF YOUR WORD, THEN YOU MUST NOW VOTE FOR MCCAIN-PALIN.

Stephanie, I can't help but get a kick out of it as well. Yes, I did have a nice day. Thank you. :)

So true, Rocket.

Gotee, glad to know I'm not the only one with this affliction.

Sarah, many songs also remind me of specific people. Sometimes, when I hear Elton John's classic "Rocketman", I can't help but think of our Colorado boy. :P

Stephanie, you're right. Some songs, through no fault of their own, are tainted forever. One that is eternally ruined for me: "Baby Got Back".

Relia, it's nice to see she's finally turning the corner and not a moment too soon. Despite this, I still have many questions and reservations (not least the fact that she has an "R" after her name).

Check this guy out. He's obviously given much more thought to the election than I:

I always have kids songs stuck in my head. I will walk around the housing singing "Wow wow wubbzy, wubbzy wubbzy wow wow" because I hear it non stop.

"He lives in a tree and he likes to play, he's got a crazy tail and he likes it that way...."

I know every single word...

At least its not Barney like it was with my daughter in the early 90s.

Hey, you snuck this entry in on me thanks for the mentioning me. I didn't see it until just now. I can make a song out of anything people say and often do in my head. Otherwise, it would be like a musical gone really bad.

It reminds me of the Kenny Vs. Spenny episode when they were seeing who could sing the longest. Here's a clip.

Penny, probably better to have innocuous songs going through our heads as opposed to demented thoughts.

Tim, I am SO glad I didn't grow up when Barney was on the air. Thank heaven for little things.

Brian, I've been quite surprised to hear that this happens to so many others. Obama probably experiences it as well. :P

Watched the Kenny/Spenny clip. Man, those guys are out there.
