The North Country

In the early 80's, our family traveled up north, way up north, up by Duluth. We visited a place called Two Harbors which offered a fantastic view of Lake Superior. The most memorable part of the vacation for me was going on the Alpine Slide at the Lutsen Mountains resort. First, you had to take a chair-lift up the hill. Then, you got on your "sled" and went down through all sorts of twists and turns that spanned more than half a mile. The sled had a brake on it so that you could go down as fast or slow as you wanted to.

Going down that slide was one of the most exhilarating moments of my life (to be surpassed only by my discovery of the genius of Police Academy's Motormouth Jones several years later).
